What’s New

Most of my work has been “finished from fronds”. However, more recently I used hardwood dimensional lumber to try out some new designs – it’s easier to experiment with wood that doesn’t have bends and bows in it, as found with the palmetto fronds.

Below is a “photo vase”. I started with a photograph I took of the underside of a palmetto frond. I had it printed on clear transparent film, and added a translucent, pearlescent layer of epoxy resin behind it. I then shaped it to resemble three “staves” of a ten-sided vase, with seven palmetto fronds completing the design. Two LED light strips were then added to the inner wall of the vase for backlighting, and the interior vessel was finished with what has become my standard epoxy resin technique – that makes it 100% water tight…like all my vases.
